Custom Sprinter E-Track Installation in San Diego: Keeping the OEM Look

Every Sprinter owner faces the same dilemma eventually: Utility vs. Aesthetics.

🛠️ The "Impossible" Install: Custom E-Tracks & Partition with a Factory Finish in San Diego
February 9, 2026

  • Do you strip out the interior to install heavy-duty cargo management systems, leaving your van looking like a raw metal tin can? Or do you keep the clean, factory-installed protection panels but sacrifice the ability to strap down heavy loads securely?
Most shops in San Diego will tell you that you have to choose one or the other. They will say you can't mount heavy-duty E-Tracks over the stock insulation panels without crushing them or making a mess.
At Sprinter Van Solutions, we don't like the word "can't." Recently, a client came to our Miramar shop with a specific request that others called "impossible." Here is how we engineered a solution that offers the best of both worlds.

The Challenge: Heavy-Duty Utility without Losing the "Clean" Look

The client brought us a newer model Mercedes Sprinter that came equipped with the factory (OEM) plastic wall protection and insulation panels. These panels are great—they protect the sheet metal from dents, reduce road noise, and look professional.

The Problem: The client needed a full E-Track system (the industry standard for securing cargo) running the length of the van.
  • Standard Install:
Usually, you screw E-Tracks directly into the metal frame. But if you do that over the plastic panels, the tracks crush the plastic, warp the walls, and look terrible.
  • The Client's Demand:
He wanted the E-Tracks installed securely to the frame, but he wanted to keep the original factory panels intact and looking perfect.
Essentially, he wanted a heavy-duty work van that still looked like a luxury vehicle inside.

Our Engineering Solution: Custom Spacer Brackets

We knew off-the-shelf parts wouldn't work here. If we used standard mounting hardware, the E-Tracks wouldn't sit flush. So, our team went to the drawing board.
We designed and manufactured a set of custom fabrication brackets specifically for this project.

These aren't just washers. These brackets serve a dual purpose:
  • Structural Spacers:
They bridge the gap between the vehicle's metal frame and the E-Track, ensuring the load is transferred to the chassis, not the plastic wall. This prevents the panels from cracking under tension.
  • Panel Tie-Downs:
The brackets are designed to hold the factory insulation panels firmly in place, acting as a secondary securing point.
This innovative solution allowed us to bolt the E-Tracks directly through the panels into the frame without distorting the interior walls.
The finished product. Clean, professional, and ready for work. Notice how the black E-Tracks sit perfectly flush against the grey factory walls.

Partition Installation & Final Result

In addition to the wall tracks, we installed a floor-mounted E-Track system and a solid Sprinter Cargo Partition. This partition is crucial for driver safety, preventing heavy cargo from shifting into the cab during hard braking.

The Result?

The client got exactly what he asked for. The van now has industrial-strength cargo capabilities with rows of E-Tracks on the walls and floor, but it retains the clean, insulated, professional look of a stock Mercedes Sprinter. No gaps, no rattling, no crushed plastic.
